Definitions

A logline is a one-sentence summary or description of a movie.

In screenwriting, a movie synopsis is a brief summary of a completed screenplay’s core concept, major plot points, and main character arcs. A screenwriter primarily writes a script synopsis as a selling tool to convince film industry higher-ups to read the full screenplay.

Writing a treatment is a skill that can help any screenwriter succeed, at any point in the creative process. There are at least three parts of getting a screenplay sold or financed. Learning to write a treatment can jumpstart a writer’s career because it allows a screenwriter to communicate his or her screenplay idea in a brief but compelling way.

Image: writersstore.comThe outline allows the writer to construct a general list of sequential scenes and moments in the order that they will be written within a screenplay. This writing tool allows the writer to get an overview of the story beats and moments before applying them into the screenplay format of locations, scene description, and dialogue.

A screenplay is the script of a film, including acting instructions and scene direction.

What is the enduring appeal of horror?- I think more and more people are coming fascinated by horror and want to see how much they can take of it. Or fascinated by the fact someone could think up of some of these theme/ideas and are interested by it. For example some of the big horror films like taxis chainsaw massica or the Saw films people are interested on how gory the film is and how in some films brake the limit and the audience wants to test there self’s and see how much they can take.

What is the role of the child in horror films?- I think the role of a child in a horror film is a symbol of hope and innocents. Or it could be to shock the audience. Most people see children as sweet and innocent but in some cases in horror we see the unexpected and see children killing. By doing this is shocks the audience and its so abnormal that its so interesting yet disturbing.

Consider the role of ‘the final woman’. Is the horror genre misogynist?- In some cases yes. They are usually the first to die or get killed. Women are usally seen as week and tend to freak out or scream for no reason to make them look perthitic. But in more resent horror films like IT and the Shinning both female characters are seen as strong, interdependent and brave and take lead of the situation.

Mini Evaluation.

Things I have leant.

Throughout this FMP I have leant many techniques. I have lernt how to use the screen wrighting program Fade In and how to make a basic layout and work myself around the sight. I have also leant how to accesses different research sores. For example books/magazines, YouTube, films and researching different screen wrighters. Also by doing lots of idea’s thinking and research on your characters for example there background and likes and dislikes really help later on when it comes to wrighting.

Things to improve on and to do next time.

I think I need to improve on making the script layout more like a script so its easier to read. I also need to add more description in my scripts. For example with the characters movement and describing objects and places. Next time I need to look at more script/screen plays and look at their layout and their techniques and what makes it good and stand out and try and use it in my work.

Coming Of Age- Homework Task

Writers: investigate the idea of the ‘universal experience’. Think of something that
has defined your childhood or teenage years. Take the core elements of this
experience, and use them to write a single scene that is set in a different place and
time. Do your research! Think of music, location, fashion, technology, culture.
Consider the tension that Kermode explores between authenticity and nostalgia.

I have learnt that too keep passionate about my work. Also once I have finished with my script read throw it a few times make sure it makes sense and make some changes and add in different words or take out words if the line dosnt flow.

Also once done I need to go back to my rough notes and drafts at the start of the project and see if there’s anything in the story/script I have missed.

Homework- Rom-com

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0bbn5x8/mark-kermodes-secrets-of-cinema-series-1-1-the-romcom

A lot of romcoms are typically very conventional in style and technique. Explain why, and
then use your own specialism to suggest ways you could demonstrate creative technique
without breaking genre’…

A lot of rom-coms are very often calssifide as being a chick flicks. This is because they tend to be amid at female audience.

One way to change this is to have a more specific audience and could aim at teenagers. Making the film more relevant to teenagers by using a younger cast or basing it in a school so the audience can relate to the film.

They usually have a basic story line of boy meets girl. It would be good to see more LGBT+ rom-con films and base it for teenagers so they can relate to the characters and the plot too. There’s so many boy meets girl Rom-coms it gets boring and they all have very simmler plot lines and characters and also endings.

Maybe if the charcters meet in an unusual setting like at a funeral or waiting for a job interview it could make the story more interesting and sometimes more realistic and so it doesn’t boring and not like the other basic story lines.

Theres a new TV show on all 4 called feel good and its about a stand-up comedian Mae is single, in recovery and stuck in a rut. But when she meets the previously heterosexual George, they embark on a whirlwind romance that promises to change their lives forever.

More shows/films like this could attract a wide range of audiences.

Molly

Molly symbolizes joy, energy and laughter.

I wanted her to be wearing a yellow dress because the colour yellow symbolizes happiness and life. When she bursts into the room it’s like a ray of sunlight shining on Rosie and she can’t help but feel warm and loved.

In the second Scene I chose the song here comes the sun By the Beatles to play hoping it might have some reference later on.

Molly looks up to Rosie and wants to be like her. She loves going into her room showing of her outfits and looking in her mirror and messing with her big sisters sprays.

When they wore younger they used to play together all the time. But when Rosie started secondary school and started having exams Molly notice something change so her little out-burst of hers means she wants attention and wants to play with Rosie again.

Rosie’s bad mood and depression is like the winter its only temporary and wont last forever. Molly’s the sunshine that brightens the world and makes everything grow and brighten and brings joy to people.
