Notes

Here are some notes I made ages ago. Writing down ideas for the story line, characters and setting really helped us build up the story and develop it. Recently we have been doing writing classes to help us build up the script/story and the characters. This really helped me because it got me thinking about the characters backgrounds and their past and how it effects them today it the present. Going to there’s classes have inspired me to work more on my character development and the locations we need that would create the right setting and atmosphere for the script.

The Start Of The Script

This is the start of my own script.

THE HARDEST DAY OF MY LIFE.

Rosie is bending over the sink in the bathroom panting and crying. She stays like that for a few seconds. Stands up and looks in the mirror. She wipes her long brown messy hair out of her face. She reaches of a tissue dabs her face and stares at her self in the mirror. She throws tissue away fakes a smile and heads downstairs were her family is about to eat breakfast.
Rosie pulls out the chair tooks her hair behind her ears and sits down.

Mum- What have you been doing up there? You have been in there for ages!
Rosie is eating her toast and doesn’t look up at her.
Rosie- sorry
Rosie stands up and puts her half eaten toast in the bin. Walks upstairs to her room slams her door and flops herself down on her bed and put her music on loudly.#
Dad- Rosie,Rosie dont forget to get your Nan something for her birthday on Sunday.
Rosie turns down the music.
Rosie- Yeah okay dad.

Research- Books

I have started reading this screen writing book to help me get more ideas and to help me with the layout.

From what I have read I have learnt about how to keep the audience interested and hooked on the script. Also I have learnt about Test Marketing. Test marketing is all about coming up with a good log-line and testing different ideas before you go pitch the idea.

I found this really interesting Summery in the book. After reading this it got me thinking about the hero in both of my scripts and how to show their journey and their emotional journey. After reading this I set myself a task when describing the “hero” use more adjectives to define a primal goal or setting and to make the sceen come to life. I think my also doing this will help we see the layout/movie in my head and will help me get ideas.

Character Profile For My Own Script. The Hardest Day Of My Life.

Name- Rosie

Age- 18

Description- she is quite short and has long brown hair that hangs down her face covering her face. She has big brown eyes

Rosie wants to come out to here family but keeps bottling it up and braking down. She keeps imagining the worst in her head and its getting her down. She goes out for a family meal and blurts it out and runs off. Her mum goes after her and tells her how much she loves her and that the family is all here to support her.

Rosie’s goles are to find the strength tell her family about her being gay and to finally come to terms with it and not be ashamed of it.

Keeping all her emotions to herself affects her in so many ways like not eating much, not socially talkative, in a low mood sometimes and is tired often.

Telling her family the truth will change Rosie by trusting people more and know what she can trust her family and know that she is accepted and loved.

This is how I want Rosie to look at the start of the film. Sad and feeling like she can’t look at anyone or get close to anyone and wants to keep herself the herself.

At the end of the film I want all the family to be having a good time and looking all happy and supportive after they have herd the news about Rosie. At the end Rosie is smiling and laughing.

Ideas For My Own Script.

The Circle

Having someone relive a tragic event that has happend in their life and having to relive it every day.

Or getting up everyday and trying to get out the same old circle/ruteen but struggles to do so.

Getting lost in a maze and not being able to find their way out.

Events that spiral out of control. Starts off with something small but ends in an unpleasant way.

The Choice

Boy has to chose whether or not to stay with his mum or dad after there devours.

Young boy has goten himself in a situation where he has to make a quick decision whether or not to fight or flight and could show both sides of what happened if he picked one or the other.

An intense conversation on who gets to do something and people fighting over it.

. For example a bill

. or turning off someones life support

. Someone coming out as gay. A girl/boy decides it time to tell their family that their gay but keeps bottling it up and keeps waiting for the right moment. They keep imagining all the worst things that could happen. And finally decides to come out. Finally over a family meal they blurt it out and everyones silance. The girl/boy is imbassed and runs off. One family member goes after them and says everything will be okay and that they love them and support them.

Wether or not two people decide to try and fix their relationship or to brake up.

Research- Harry Wootliff

https://harrywootliff.com

Harry Wootfliff is an English film and television director and screenwriter. For me she is really good at showing emotions throw her characters.

For example in Her film Nits its about A 7-year-old boy who struggles to understand why his mother returned from hospital, isn’t giving him the attention he craves.

This is a trailer from Harry’s latest film Only You. Elena and Jake meet by chance on New Years Eve, arguing for the same taxi. However, instead of going their separate ways after sharing a taxi ,they start a passionate relationship.

Some themes in this film has helped me write the script form mine. For example arguing and fighting like Sophie and Rob do and that Sophie and Rob also meet by chance/ by accident and there relationship goes from there.

At the end of the film it end peacefully .In the final scene, we see Elena walking through the park on an Autumnal afternoon. She eventually comes to Jake who is stood waiting for her. They walk towards and embrace each other tenderly.

In the end of our film Sophie is walking out her house and the driving instructor is waiting for her and we see her drive off. Some similar themes have made a big influence in our script as a whole. Watching some of Harry’s sort films and seeing all the different characters views, emotions and how they react to serene things have really helped with the script and also character development.

Getting Feedback From The Script And Editing.

Yesterday I edited the script and went throw it with my tutor. We talked about the flashbacks and how not to give too much away at the start of the film. We also talked about how during the fight seen Sophie needs to realise that she doesn’t want to be with Rob anymore and wants move on and away from him.

In the latexes versen of the script I took the bit from the start were Sophies in Rob’s room taking off the necklace and moved it towards the end were it’s the day of her first driving lesson. By doing this its like totally removing herself from him and properly moving on with her life and having no memories of him and her time with him.

I also added in the fight seen that when Sophie is cleaning up the broken glass she realises she doesn’t want to be here and saying she hates rob and living in his flat. This is the most important bit in the film were we was an audience can see her grow and stand up for herself and family moving on and realise she doesn’t need to relay on him anymore.

This feedback has been really helpful and I think has defiantly improved the script.

Working on scripts

The top download is off the script the person in my group did since we are both doing the script together. I read through the script and printed it out. I then started to make notes on it and started adding some dialog and some things the characters could do to add the contrast in the characters.

I then opend the same script and started to add my notes to the script and edited the same document. After I had finished I read it once more to make sure I hadn’t forgotten any of my notes. After that I sent the document back to my friend who is help writing the script so she can add to it. This is how we are making/ building up the script. Once she has edited it I will do the same.

Here are some of the notes I made on the script and added to the script.
