SCENE 3
The next day Rosie doesn’t get up until 12. She is feeling down and just wants to lay in bed all day.
Rosie sits up and looks at her clock by her bed. It reads 12:05. She can here someone walking up the stairs. She puts her hair into a messy ponytail and smooths out her dovey.

Rosie- Yeah sure mum.

Werner Herzog

Werner Herzog said on the radio recently that joy is “an essential part of cinema. It is about

awe. It is about wonder. Without that you shouldn’t be a filmmaker.” Watch one of Werner Herzog’s documentary films and describe how he transmits joy, awe and wonder. How does he use humour? Do you think he is right that you shouldn’t be making films without joy, awe and wonder?

I watched Herzog’s documentary called Cave of forgotten dreams. Its about the Chauvet caves of Southern France, capturing the oldest known pictorial creations of humankind in their astonishing natural setting. For me theirs wonder and mistery in his voice which makes the whole thing more misterys and as an audience we are fixed on the information/story and has us hooked. I’m not really interested in this kind of documentary but with the interesting camera angles and the setting and also the voice over I found it quite interesting and enjoyable.

Werner Herzog has directed may different goners of films. For example documentary, dramas, historical films, adventure, horror and si-fi films. Some of his best known films are Grizzly Man,Aguirre, the Wrath of God, Fitzcarraldo and many more.

For me when Herzog talks about joy, most people think about joy meaning happy or full of life. But what about the people who enjoy darker/horror films or even sad films like the boy in the striped pajamas. Or maybe Herzong means that whatever film you watch regardless of the genar should bring joy/satisfaction to all and enjoy watching it. The audience should enjoy watching it.

Whichever way you look at it all types have film consists of joy and wonder. For example in the horror film The shining you wonder whats going to happen to the family, will the family escape and what will happen to Jack. But in happy, family fun up beat love film like Greece you wonder if Sandy and Danny will get back together or if they will find someone else and wonder what will happen in the end.

I think that all films should bring joy and wonder regardless of the type of film otherwise the audience would lose interest and wouldn’t care for the characters or what there going through.

Getting to know Rosie

Rosies coping mechanism is to listen to music and switch off and focous on the music. Music calms her and helps her out in stressful situations like at school or at home when she feels like know one understands her. Rosie has a range of music she likes to listen to.

She has her own playlist for when she’s in a good mood or is getting ready in the morning which is filled with her favourite songs. Before she goes to sleep or is studying she listings to relaxing soft beats music to help her focous or relax.

Scene 2

(SCENE 2)
The next morning Rosie is up early sitting in her bed with messy hair and bags under her eyes not having slept well the night before. She grabs her phone that is on her bedside stand and opens up instergram. She spends 20 minutes scrolling through her friends post. She sees how happy her friends seen. Finally she huffs and throws her phone on her bed. She gets out of bed and looks in the mirror and brushes her hair and whips face with a wipe. She grabs her phone again opens spotify and puts her favorite song on Here comes the sun by the Beatles.

Rosie reaches to the back of her chair and puts on her black skinny jeans, white baggy top and a mustered colored jumper. She goes to her draw and finds a pair of ankle socks with little rainbows on the side. Rosie walks to the other side of the room and puts her black vans on which are under her desk. Finally grabs her rucksack and heads downstairs. She stops down the hall to look in the mirror. Fixes her hair and heads down for breakfast.

This is the second bit of my script so far.

British History Cinema Task

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000gp05/mark-kermodes-secrets-of-cinema-series-2-2-british-history-movies

https://www.cbc.ca/radio/q/blog/hans-zimmer-explains-the-audio-trickery-that-made-dunkirk-audiences-nauseous-1.4311684

Research the sound design of historical battle scenes. Explain and explore how these are
planned, recorded and built.

Hans Zimmer was the sound designer for Dunkirk. He made this illusion sound by something called Shepard tone . As the tone goes up the scale the higher pitch tone goes quieter. The middle tone remands loud. The lowest base sound gets gradually louder. You can always here two notes at the same time it tricks you mind the a constant asending tone. Loop it all together and it sounds like its going on forever. When the tones go on its called a sheperd-risset glissando. It can sound really spooky and it can also go in the opposite direction back down the scale. Its seemed the noises are going up and getting more intense without the sounds moving at all.

You can here it in the soundtrack and in the scenes were there is a ticking sound. Using this tone structure it sounds like the ticking is getting louder and more intense but it actually just stays the same. This is a good way to create tension and to keep the audience at the edge of their seats.

This is the scene with the ticking clock .

Screenwriting Research Books and Magazine’s

This is one of my favorite films written by Tarantino and I decided to read the script and get ideas on the layout and the format. By reading this I learnt that whens the right time too CUT TOO a different scene and by doing this it can make a build up in the dialog or to make the scene run more smoothly.

I also learnt that if something is important or wants something to stand out in the script you but the line sepert on the next paragraph in bold.

When it says the “sirens and chopper sounds are getting closer” it implies that this is really important and is key in this scene.

The Magazine I got to help me with my research is one of my favorites called SFX. I got this because it had an arrical about one of my favorite TV shows called inside number 9. I thought this might be useful to try to work on character development.

After reading the artical and watching the show so may times I noticed that every character is completely different and has a different unique background story that catches up on them later in the script. I found this quite interesting and thought i could try and use this in my script. It also made me think about unique setting and were the characters live or visit. In the show they have some unique locations and made me think if i could find anywhere interesting/different that the characters in my script could visit.

Secrets Of Cinema – The Spy movie

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000gwzj/mark-kermodes-secrets-of-cinema-series-2-3-spies

After watching this documentary I learnt that there are lots of characters/themes you need to make a good spy movie. For example you could have a hero, villain, spy, secret agent, a higherd assassin, the master mind and may more.

Design a spy gadget and give a summary of the scene in which it will be used. Show all
development, research, sketches and a final design. Justify your decisions.

In an abandon warehouse we see the hero and the villain having a stand off if one person moves they kill the other.

The hero has an invisible button inside of her sleeve if she squeezes it a long wire comes out of it and grabs the weapon off the villain and then grabs/grips onto their clothing and lifts them up in the air unable to move.

Simmeler to this but it’s not a web its wire with grips attached to the end.

3 big rotating grips at the end.

This is what will come out of the wire and will rotate round and can grab on to anything with a tight grip.

Superhero Task

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000gg30/mark-kermodes-secrets-of-cinema-series-2-1-superheroes

After watching this documentary as a set task I had a few ideas on how to improve my characters background story and to try and get the audience to feel for the characters and what their going through.

The next task I picked was to Invent a Superhero for current times and explain how they fit into the criteria explored in the Secrets of Cinema episode.

My superhero would be a young girl and her super power is helping the environment and all the life forms stay alive and help protect all the animal/nature from being destroyed.

Her name is Nelly Nature Girl. She has heeling powers that can work on trees/plants and animals.

Nelly discovered her powers when she was 5 years old. Her pet rabbit Buddy got cort in a fence. Buddy’s leg had a big cut on it and when Nelly rescued him she held him in her arms and said everything would be okay. A few seconds later the cut had heeled and Buddy has fine.

Her number one villain is Diana The Destroyer. Her power is that she can destroy anything with a click of her fingers and dosnt care of the consequences.

Nelly’s day job is that she works for one of the biggest nature magazine companies in the world. She is a editor. Also by doing this she can find out the whereabouts of her biggest villain.

She keeps her identity a secret. Her costume is different shades of green with lots of green sea-quines. She also has a pin badge of buddy on her consume She has big black boots. She always has her long blue hair flowing down. But at work she has her hair tied up and wears a baseball cap.

When Nelly was little she used to live in a big city until her mum and dad split up and she moved with her dad to the countryside and found her love of the outdoors and nature. Her mentor is her dad who is a zoo-olagist and shseres the same love of animals as Nelly.

More Research On Screen Writing

I found these images on Pinterest.

I have been struggling with the structure of my script and were to place serten events to keep the audience hooked. After doing some research I found this I thought it was really helpful and inspiring. From this I will go back to my script and try and get the audience hooked straight away. I will also work down this list I found and follow it and use it in my own script work.

I found this and thought it was really interesting and could really help me a lot. For example it could help me plan out what will happen in each of the scene in the script and to get a clear view in what will happen and how to work around any problems before I probably write my script.

Research-Rosie

When I image Rosie I think of her as being shy and keeps her self to her self but is always willing to to help others.

The way she’s dressed is really important to express how she is feeling and how to express her self. For me this is the kind of outfit Rosie would wear. Trendy but also basic so she didn’t stand out or draw attention to herself. She always has her I pod and earphones on her so when she wants to zone out or if it’s getting too much for her she can have that coping mechanism to relax. By the way she’s dressed she’s kinda artistic and always keeps her art book and pencils in her bag in case she has an idea or wants to escape and doze out.
